As a senior there are two ways that you can go about planning your vacation.

The most convenient is to let the travel agencies do all the work for you. They often have travel packages that are affordable and well planned out. Many of them cater to seniors and making your plans for a holiday this way has many of the following benefits.

• Your mode of travel is arranged for you. It will usually be comfortable and pleasant and if it is a long journey such as a cruise for example, there will be entertainment included.

• The travel agency has great contacts with good accommodation providers in any of the destination areas they promote. They have already checked out this accommodation to ensure that it clean, comfortable, has all the amenities and is in a safe location.

• The most popular and interesting sight seeing and activity venues are planned and arranged.

Your own planning
Often seniors find that going on a planned vacation via a travel agency doesn't quite suit their lifestyle. By planning their own vacation it gives them the advantage of…

• Choosing their mode of travel perhaps during the off peak season, or taking advantage of last minute deals. These can be cheaper than what is provided by the travel agents.

• Picking another form of accommodation rather than a hotel perhaps. Some seniors prefer to stay for a longer period of time than what a package deal provides. In this case they can opt to use a vacation apartment as a form of accommodation.

• Places to see and things to do are more flexible when self planned. Although the package deals usually include the hot spots, some seniors have different interests than what's included in these.

Both these types of travel planning venues have their advantages. The big factor however, is travel safety for seniors and in this regard utilizing the services of travel agencies is probably the safer venue to use.
